The office of Paghidaet sa Kauswagan Development Group Inc (PDG) were subjected to renewed surveillance from intel operatives of Philippine Army yesterday, September 6, 2023.

In a post by September 21 Movement South Negros, two intel operatives were seen lurking within the PDG’s premises. The two intel operatives were also reported as those responsible for tailing and conducting surveillance on activities of assisted community organizations by the PDG in Kabankalan and Cauayan, Negros Occidental.

In 2018, renowned human rights lawyer and former executive director of PDG, Atty. Benjamin Ramos Jr., was shot dead by riding in tandem. The perpetrators were also believed to be members of the Philippine Army. A week after he was buried, two staff of PDG also received threats.th

HRAN strongly condemns this act and calls on to investigate those responsible.

About the Paghidaet sa Kauswagan Group (PDG)

The group Paghidaet sa Kauswagan (Peace in Progress) was established in November 26, 1987 and registered on May 30, 1988 at the Securities and Exchange Commission as a non-profit organization. They have been recognized partners of the Department on Argrarian Reform and Commission on Human Rights, wherein they organize livelihood programs, as well as advocate for farmers’ and peasant’s rights in the local and provincial level.
